
North Carolina Department of Public Education Energy Design Guidelines Program

This program purpose is to improve the quality of learning environments and simultaneously reduce energy and maintenance. “Volume I: Planning and Design Services for Energy Efficient Schools” assists local school boards and superintendents in selecting in the precontract portions of a new school.
“Volume II: The Design Services and Monitoring Process” includes the forms and explanations to monitor the energy conscious design process. The video, “Planning for a Successful Future” documents recent success stories with these types of schools and the procedure that can be used to select architects and engineers. The pilot program includes eight school projects from across the state. This process was enacted into law by the State of North Carolina, and given national awards for design and content.
